In 2011, in the midst of the 2008 recession recovery efforts, like countless others, Edgar experienced the challenges small businesses owners face when trying to launch a business in Arizona.
With an understanding of these challenges, Edgar decided to join the business world to learn as much as he could about the economy, diversity, and sustainability to help others succeed. This work has created a new path in economic empowerment efforts for countless multicultural, entrepreneurial communities in his home state of Arizona and Latin America.
Back in 2011, there were very limited resources available for Spanish-preferred small business owners. Today, there are many and more to come!
2011
Edgar and his husband, Paul Taliercio, had a vision to provide bilingual coaching services to emerging leaders who were starting a new career path in entrepreneurism.
2012
In partnership with the City of Scottsdale, Edgar hosted biliingual business mastermind groups. The first of its kind for the city. It rapidly became the library's most popular community program for small business owners.
2014
In partnership with the City of Phoenix and Economic Development, Edgar and his team launched a bilingual business readiness program in English and Spanish. This was another program that was first of its kind within the small business community, offered by a public library. We reached close to 3,000 small business owners.
2013-2016
Compass CBS partnered with many organizations through federal and local grants to support startups and existing small business owners in Spanish. We worked with organizations like the City of Buckeye, Fuerza Local Accelerator, Creciendo Unidos, and many more.
2016-2018
We created a physical space that was equipped with virtual streaming technology, before COVID forced almost every organization to stream their programs. We hosted hybrid events and crossed 16K program visitors in a few short years.
2019
At the request of the Arizona Latino Legislative Caucus, we shared our impact within the Latino small business community over the years and our plans as a non-profit organization to continue advancing a diverse, inclusive and sustainable entrepreneur ecosystem in Arizona.
2018-present
Today, we work with national organizations to help advance equitable economic recovery efforts and continue to deliver high-quality business education in English and Spanish. We work with Univision in Arizona, New York and Los Angeles markets as well as provide editorial content for In Business Magazine, reaching over 250K subscribers weekly!
2022 - present
Several years later, we return as program partners for the Business Roadmap Program at StartUP PHX, an entrepreneurial space located on the second floor of the Burton Barr Library. This 8-session program helps entrepreneurs interested in starting a business in Arizona. Topics include legal issues, target markets, budgeting, and pricing, setting milestones, and accessing capital. Sessions are being offered in person and online in both English and Spanish.
